This question that not too long ago was pure science fiction, now appears to be socio-economic. That is to say, we can do this if we want to.
If many of the jobs around the world are performed by machines, robots, what would, could, that world look like? What might it be like to live in such a world? And, what will transpire on the way to that possibility? What will happen economically, socially, and how will it affect the human heart, the human spirit. Will the "work ethic" (such as it is) change into something else?
We could as a species, nurture such a world. We could decide its as fantastic thing, an opportunity freeing us to pursue other activities expanding the human experience in wholesome and even unpredictable wondrous directions.
We could decide this robot worker world is evil, unwholesome, bad for us on many levels. The truth is, we can come to any number of conclusions about it. But what I'd like to encourage and invite here is an exploration of the notion of much of the "work" in the world being handled by machines and even much of the care of those machines being handled by machines as well.
Personally I can see a whole range of possibilities here from violence and despair, all the way to a pretty great place to live for every one on the planet.
I invite you to explore here any aspect or direction that interests you. And let's try not to get personal and insulting with each other as we do this. This may be a charged subject for some of us. We can explore that too instead of just reacting to it. Lets just see where it goes. I suspect that if we investigate in this way, it will be interesting, productive and even fun.
So, what do you think? Clearly there will be serious challenges no matter where we go down this road. And make no mistake. We ARE going down this road. The video Mel brings to our attention is irrefutable evidence of this.
